This exciting opportunity as a Software Engineer will play a key role in the development of APSIM (www.apsim.info), a world leading simulation model used by thousands of international scientists to tackle problems of global significance. The software engineer will also help CSIRO to develop digital infrastructure for a new research station at Forest Hill, close to Toowoomba and Brisbane.



This position will be located with the Digital Innovations team based in Toowoomba but will work closely with team members and collaborators interstate and overseas. Nestled away from the super busy city life, this role will initially start at Toowoomba, QLD however will move to Forest Hill, QLD giving you umpteen reasons to apply. To be considered you will need:

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree, plus significant post-graduate experience within industry or academia.
  • Strong experience in programming in C#, Python or equivalent.
  • Experience in software process management
  • Ability to communicate and work well within a diverse team.
  • Willingness to learn something new.

Your duties will include:

  • Assist in the development of new modelling capability for APSIM
  • Redesign and refactor existing code for improved performance and maintainability
  • Providing software/modelling support for CSIRO projects, solving real-world world problems
  • Assist in design and implementation of digital infrastructure for a new cutting-edge research station.
  • Working within a team using agile software development principles.

Location: Toowoomba, QLD (currently)/ Forest Hill, QLD (in future)

Salary: AU$89,680 – AU$101,459 plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: Specified term of up to 3 years / Full-time

Applications for this position are open to Australian/New Zealand Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents or you must either hold, or be able to obtain, a valid working visa for the duration of the specified term. Appointment to this role is subject to provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security/medical/character requirements.
